Manama: Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) President, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, chaired the 21st meeting of National Committee for the implementation and follow up on the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) and National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP), with the participation of members, and the Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme to Bahrain.
Dr. Mirza reviewed the outcomes of the high-level meetings in which he participated on the sidelines of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA) Assembly, and the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2021, held in January.
The committee reviewed the work of the work team, chaired by SEA, and including representatives of the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, the Electricity and Water Authority and the Survey and Land Registration Bureau.
The team work was tasked by the Ministerial Committee for Construction and Infrastructure to study the feasibility of using lands, non-operational landscape, coastal areas and deep waters for renewable energy projects.
The committee also discussed the latest developments of the initiative to install solar energy systems on the roofs of government buildings, and its success, which proves the wide investment opportunities offered by the renewable energy sector, given its great benefits, as its saves energy and costs, as well as reduces the carbonic footprint at buildings and installations.
The meeting also discussed the specifications of electric vehicles and the national strategy for electric vehicles, in addition to the developments of the application of the Green Building Code policies, the final stages of the central cooling legislation and policies, the possibilities of using utility corridors on the roads to install renewable energy systems on them, and the developments of the operational plan of the 100 MW central solar energy project.
