Bahrain reviews cooperation with IAEA to tackle Covid-19

Manama: The National Committee on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction held its 11th virtual meeting.

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, headed the meeting.

They followed up on the committee’s projects including chemical weapons agreements and the chemical weapons scientific research award which was postponed until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee discussed its annual agenda and agreed to postpone all events, meetings and workshops scheduled for the upcoming period until further notice.

They reviewed the possibility of cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to tackle COVID-19.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of providing technical and practical support by the Agency to Member States through providing the necessary equipment and training courses for workers in this field.

The committee reviewed the implementation plan for the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which will be followed next year.
